RIT! RIT! RIT! Plus: Yale beats N. Dakota!

RIT Slams New Hampshire to Advance to Frozen Four!

In what was a close neck-and-neck battle for the first half of the game, RIT came alive and destroyed New Hampshire 6-2, to be the first team to advance to this year’s Frozen Four.  With the game 1-1 midway through the second, RIT managed to score three goals in a minute and a half, two of them within thirteen seconds!  Up 4-1, RIT scored again half way through the third, to make it 5-1.  New Hampshire scored with about three minutes left to  make it 5-2, and then RIT snagged an empty-netter with about two minutes remaining to make the final 6-2.  RIT, this year’s tournament darlings, quite reminiscent of Bemidji State in last year’s tournament, battled every minute of the game, and scored over and over again from close range, constantly penetrating the New Hampshire defense.  Many times when New Hampshire would get a rebound and attempt to get the puck out of the zone and break to the RIT net, the Tigers would intercept and keep the puck in the New Hampshire zone.  Listening to these last two games on 89.7 WITR FM from Rochester has been a blast!  You have announcers from a school, not expecting to beat Denver or New Hampshire, just going wild every time their team scores.  It has been the excitement that sports are supposed to be about.  If you are going to watch the RIT game on Thursday, April 8, on ESPN, in the Frozen Four, I would strongly encourage you to listen to it on this station while watching on TV.  They are so thorough in describing the scene in the arena,  including mentioning the large group of RIT students who came to today’s game wearing sombreros.  RIT goes to the Frozen Four having beaten the regular season champions of the WCHA and of Hockey East to get there.  This is a major upset an all fronts; one person out of 26 picked RIT to advance to the Frozen Four.

Yale Hangs on to Upset North Dakota!

In control of the game and taking a 3-0 lead into the third period, Yale had to survive a third period comeback by North Dakota,  in which the Sioux scored two goals.  But survive Yale did, and they prevailed by the final score of 3-2, to advance in the tournament.  This is a big upset — only seven out of twenty-six in our pool picked Yale to win this game.

Boston College Controls, Beats Alaska-Fairbanks , and Advances

BC scored midway through the first on a short-handed goal, and Alaska  followed with a power play goal late in the second to tie it up at 1-1.  BC broke the tie early in the third, and then scored an empty netter with 40 seconds remaining, to win the game 3-1 and advance in the tournament to play Yale.  Twenty-five out of twenty-six in our pool picked BC to win this game.

Miami of Ohio Contains Alabama Huntsville to Win, Advance

Miami of  Ohio scored midway through the first to take a 1-0 lead, and then early in the second to take a 2-0 lead over Alabama-Huntsville.  The Chargers turned it on, playing a very good third period, and Miami surrendered a goal with 38 seconds remaining.  The RedHawks held on at the end to win 2-1.  All twenty-six people in our pool picked Miami of Ohio to win this game.

That’s it for now.  Stay tuned, and go RedHawks!

I didn’t know who RchIT was when I saw the brackets! My nephew went there until last year but when I saw RchIT I thought it was some cinderella team from Richmond or elsewhere because one would never refer to RIT as anything but RIT. So can I have my picks back?!

Just kidding! I am going nuts at the moment watching West Virginia hang on by a thread to their 71-66 vistory with 13.8 seconds left while my husband is switching stations on 2 tvs between his beloved Badgers game and Thrashers vs. Carolina. We really need to get a life after this sports season ends! Though at the moment it’s a good antidote for the stress of waiting for college decisions.

Next year, I’ll edit the school names for you….St. Lawrence will be in as SLU:)
