Did you ever see the movie Seabiscuit? What a great story and movie. One of the points that was emphasized was that it is very hard to run out in front for too long. I don’t know that many college hockey teams or their coaches get that. I suspect it is push, push, push all year long, and if they drop a few games, it starts to get ugly and the pressure comes on them big time. I suspect it doesn’t work that way at Boston College with Jerry York — I could be dead wrong, this is just what I suspect. The reason I bring it up is that it seems to me that (for how many years now — six, seven?) BC starts out red hot, and then cools, only to come back at the end of the year on fire — fresh and ready to beat the world. Sort of the way Seabiscuit ran against War Admiral, as depticted in the movie. It’s just a hunch.
So why bring this up? BC was ranked #1 two weeks ago. They dropped a game two weekends ago, and last weekend split with Merrimack, and are now #4. This seems a little early for their annual fall. They might eventually even drop out of the top ten, but if they do, I wouldn’t count them out, regardless of the fact that I am not their biggest fan; I’m just a realist.
In our heralded matchups North Dakota split with Denver, dropping North Dakota from #8 to #9, and dropping Denver from #12 to #13. #10 New Hampshire rained hard on #14 Cornell’s seaon opener, keeping New Hampshire at #10, and dropping Cornell to #19.
In other action, four more of the top ten teams split (including win/tie) the weekend’s games as well, including Miami of Ohio, the #1team (win/tie vs. Lake Superior State). The two teams that did not play two games both won their one game and all held their rankings. Nebraska-Omaha was idle, and Boston University and Yale both took two wins over the weekend. No new names in the top ten, just a little shuffling among them.
This weekend we have some smokers! For starters, the new #2 team, Minnesota-Duluth, will play two games at #9 North Dakota. Next we have the new #3 team, Boston University hosting #7 Maine on Saturday night. And #4 Boston College will host #10 New Hampshire tonight. It would sure be great to see any one of these!
This provides the top ten teams, rankings, records and last weekend’s results:

Lastly, while it’s a bit off-subject, and not my favorite sport, there was a little development this week called the San Francisco Giants! Great to see the baseball world get righted.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned, and go Terriers!
