Michigan Tech Drops Denver to #8

Colorado College senior center Rylan Schwartz, of Wilcox, Sask., scored three goals last weekend, leading the Tigers sweep of RPI.

Last week’s heralded matchups, were all in the CCHA, but before we get into them, perhaps the biggest news would be that Michigan Tech delivered a loss and a tie to last week’s #2 Denver.  The loss was rather dramatic as Michigan Tech prevailed 7-2, and the result of the weekend was that Denver dropped from #2 to #8 in the rankings, and Michigan Tech entered the top twenty at #16.  Now to the three CCHA top-twenty matchups:  First off, last week’s #4 Michigan hosted and swept last week’s #6 Ferris State; Michigan rose to #3 in the rankings, and Ferris State dropped to #10.  Last week’s #7 Western Michigan hosted and swept last week’s #14 Northern Michigan; Western Michigan rose to #4 in the rankings, and Northern dropped to #17.  And last week’s #18 Lake Superior State hosted and swept last week’s #17 Miami of Ohio, dropping Miami from the rankings, and lifting Lake Superior to #11.

Boston College swept UMass-Lowell, and retained the #1 ranking; Colorado College swept RPI and rose from #3 to #2; and Minnesota swept Alaska-Anchorage and rose from #8 to #5.  Notre Dame swept Bowling Green but dropped from #5 to #6, Merrimack College swept Vermont and rose from #9 to #7, and Yale earned a tie against Princeton and beat Dartmouth to rise up to #9 from #10 in the rankings.

This weekend  there are five great top twenty matchups:  #3 Michigan will host #4Western Michigan for two games; #5 Minnesota will host #15 North Dakota for a pair; #6 Notre Dame will travel to play two at #17 Northern Michigan; #8 Denver will host two against #14 Minnesota-Duluth; and #10 Yale will host a game against #18 Colgate.
