Last week there were a few featured matchups, but let’s start with some big news — Merrimack came out this week ranked #1 in the country! As for those top matchups, first of all, last week’s #4 Notre Dame beat last week’s #3 Boston College, with Notre Dame rising to #2 in the rankings, and BC dropping to #5. Notre Dame also tied last week’s #10 Western Michigan, after the poll had come out; Western Michigan had dropped to #10 on its idle weekend, prior to the Notre Dame game. Next, last week’s #7 Michigan was swept by last week’s #14 Ohio State, dropping Michigan to #11, and lifting Ohio State to #9. The last top twenty matchup saw last week’s #11 Denver earn a win and a tie against last week’s #19 Nebraska-Omaha, lifitng Denver to #10, while Nebraska-Omaha held at #19.
Elsewhere, last week’s #2 Merrimack had an idle weekend, then beat Alabama-Huntsville by a 6-0 margin, after the poll came out. Last week’s #1 Minnesota split the weekend with St. Cloud State, dropping the Golden Gophers to the #3 spot. Last week’s #5 Colorado College swept Wisconsin, lifting CC to the #4 spot in the rankings. Last week’s #8 Minnesota-Duluth swept Mankato, lifting them to the #6 spot, while last week’s #6 Ferris State split with Alaska Fairbanks, dropping them to #7. And last week’s #9 Yale rose to #8 on its win over Connecticut, and then lost to Sacred Heart after the poll came out.
Lake Superior State played to a tie and win with Canisius College, and dropped from #12 to #13 as a result, while #13 Union College was idle, and also came in at the #13 spot in this week’s poll. Boston University beat Vermont and New Hampshire, and rose from #16 to #15. Colgate rose from #17 to #16 on its weekend sweep, and Cornell rose from #18 to #17 on its weekend sweep, and won again after the poll came out. Michigan Tech dropped from #15 to #18 on its split weekend, and Michigan State split with last week’s #20 Northern Michigan, and replaced them at #20 in the poll.
This weekend there are a handful of top twenty matchups, starting with #19 Lake Superior State hosting #2 Notre Dame for two games. #20 Michigan State will host two games against #3 Minnesota, and #8 Yale will host #5 Boston College for one game. #11 Michigan will host #13 Union for a game, and #15 Boston University will play #17 Cornell at Madison Square Garden.
