Michigan Tumbles in Rankings

Minnesota-Duluth senior forward Travis Oleksuk, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, leads his team with twelve goals scored this season, helping lead them to a nation-leading unbeaten streak of ten games, and the #4 spot in the rankings. The Bulldogs travel to play two games against #20 Michigan Tech this weekend.

Last weekend gave us a handful or so of top matchups, and of them, right off the bat, last week’s #5 Boston College took on last week’s #8 Yale, and BC came out on top, elevating BC to #2 in the poll, and dropping Yale to #14.  Minnesota came out on the lesser end of a loss and tie against Michigan State, dropping Minnesota from #3 to #5, and giving Michigan State a lift from #20 to #16.  Last week’s #4, Colorado College, was swept by unranked North Dakota, dropping the CC Tigers down to #8.  Last week’s #11 Michigan dropped a game to last week’s #13 Union, and that’s not all, Michigan also lost to Northeastern — the two losses dropped Michigan to #19, while Union rose up to #9 on their win.  And last week’s #10 Denver was beaten by Miami of Ohio; Denver earned a win against Princeton, and Miami notched a win against Providence, so on the weekend, Denver held at #10, and Miami re-entered the top 20 at #18.

Continuing on with teams that played, Notre Dame split with Lake Superior, holding Notre Dame at #2, and giving Lake Superior a lift from #13 to #11.  Last week’s #15 Boston University beat last week’s #17 Cornell, which lifted BU to #13, and kept Cornell at #17.  A Colgate win over Vermont lifted Colgate from #16 to #15, and Michigan Tech had a split weekend against St. Lawrence, dropping Michigan Tech from #18 to #20.

Elsewhere, idle teams did very well:  Merrimack held at #1; while Minnesota-Duluth rose up from #6 to #4; Ferris State rose from #7 to #6; Ohio State rose from #9 to #7; and Western Michigan held at #12.

This weekend we have another handful of marquis matchups, starting with #2 Boston College hosting #13 Boston University tonight; the two teams travel the three and a half miles down Commonwealth Ave. to BU tommorow night.  #4 Minnesota Duluth will travel to play two at #20 Michigan Tech, while #6 Ferris State will host #12 Western Michigan tonight, and the two will play at Western Michigan tommorow night.  #7 Ohio State will host #11 Lake Superior State for two games, while #8 Colorado College will host one game against #10 Denver tonight.

This provides the top twenty teams, rankings, records, and last weekend’s results:
