The St. Lawrence Saints tied #7 Merrimack in a blazing 6-6 game last weekend. Merrimack went on to beat Holy Cross, and to hold on the the #7 ranking. Elsewhere, I can briefly report on the “Lefse/Kringle” game between #5 Notre Dame and #10 Boston University. Bust! Boston University looked like they were trying to figure what the puck was. From the opening of the game, BU was back on its heels as the hometeam was on the assault all night long, and prevailed 5-2. BU scored first on a quick goal scored off a faceoff near the goal, but Notre Dame scored five unanswered goals in a game that saw the puck in the BU zone all night long. BU’s second tally came with only about three minutes remaining, when it appeared that Notre Dame had started thinking about what they’d be doing on New Year’s Day. While BU had lost two of its top players, and a third, Adam Clendenning is on a leave of absence to play in the World Juniors, Notre Dame also had two players off to the World Juniors. Notre Dame has considerable talent in its seniors, something BU has failed to retain for several years now. If this game was any indication of what is in store for the Terriers between now and the end of February, it’s going to be a very long two months on Commonwealth Ave.
Colgate! Colgate finds itself at #9 after beating Canisius — they have jumped up three spots into the top ten. Robbie Bourdon, a junior forward from Montreal, who is pictured above, scored the first two goals in the game. Denver has jumped up four spots from #15 to #11 after beating #14 Union and Air Force. And look out for UMass-Lowell — they have jumped up five spots to #12 from #17 after beating RPI and Connecticut. Union scheduled in a tough road trip, taking on both #6 Colorado College and #11 Denver, and came out with two losses, and dropped from #10 to #14. And in the Mariucci Classic, host Minnesota made it to the championship round after beating Niagra, but ran into a pesky bunch from Northeastern. Northeastern won the championship game, and dropped Minnesota from #2 to #3. Boston College lost in the first round to Michigan in the Great Lakes Invitational, and BC prevailed in the consolation against Michigan Tech — BC dropped from #3 to #4 on the weekend. Michigan went on to face Michigan State in the Championship and beat State, dropping MSU from #14 to #15, despite beating Michigan Tech in the first round. And St. Cloud registered a win against Western Michigan on a split weekend, and Western Michigan held on to the #8 ranking.
This weekend there are five top fifteen matchups, starting with a barn burner as #1 Minnesota-Duluth travels to play a pair at #8 Western Michigan; also slated is #6 Colorado College hosting #13 Cornell for two games. Saturday night sees #3 Minnesota hosting #5 Notre Dame, and #7 Merrimack takes a short trip to play #10 Boston University. And to round out Merrimack’s weekend, they play at #4 Boston College on Sunday.
This provides the top fifteen teams, rankings, records, and last weekend’s results:

That’s all for now. Stay tuned, and go Terriers!
