NCAA’s Open With Union Win

Union College freshman forward Max Novak, of Oak Ridge, NJ, got Union on the scoreboard first with this goal late in the first period. Union went on to beat Michigan State 3-1.

Union College kicked off the 2012 NCAA DI Men’s Hockey Tournament today with a convincing win over Michigan State in the East Regional in Bridgeport, CT.  Union’s Max Novak struck first late in the first period, and Union’s Jeremy Welsh then made it 2-0 early in the second.  Michigan State’s Matt Berry scored on a power play at the end of the second period to send it to the third, 2-1, Union.  Michigan State played a close third period, but Union’s Wayne Simpson scored the decisive blow on a power play opportunity with two minutes remaining to give Union the win, 3-1.

Union advances to the Eastern Regional final to face the winner of the Miami/Mass-Lowell game, which will get underway shortly.

The win by Union, ranked #3 in the nation, was favored by 22 out of 31 participants in this year’s pool.

That’s all for now.  Stay tuned, and go Terriers!

I am not surprised given the way the Basketball team folded yesterday that the hockey team would do the same. I still got my love for the ferris st bulldogs though!!

It does seem like a rather rough week for Michigan State teams . . . .
