Last weekend BC flexed some serious #1 muscle as it marched on #8 Notre Dame Friday night, and then #11 Boston University on Sunday afternoon, winning each game by two goals (it was the sole game of the weekend for Notre Dame; BU had beaten Merrimack Friday night). Not mentioned last week, because it’s sort of this weekend’s game, #7 Notre Dame beat #12 Michigan last night. Elsewhere in the earlier-heralded-games department, #4 Miami of Ohio managed a win and a tie against #19 Northern Michigan, and #6 North Dakota split with this year’s hot team seemingly out of the blue, #15 St. Cloud State, with each team winning their game by three goals. #7 Union College easily beat #17 Harvard, but lost a close one to another suddenly hot team, #12 Dartmouth (Harvard went on to beat RPI, and Dartmouth had beaten RPI the night before). Moving on to the great rivalries department, #13 Michigan split its weekend with Michigan State, with each team earning a lopsided win.
Elsewhere, #2 Denver swept Mankato, #3 Minnesota earned a win and tie against Alaska-Anchorage, and #5 New Hampshire won its game against Vermont. #9 Western Michigan earned a win and tie against Bowling Green, and #10 Cornell lost to both Princeton and Quinnipiac, dropping Cornell four places in the rankings.
#14 Colorado College swept Bemidji State. And another hot team this year, St. Lawrence, settled on a tie with Brown, and suffered a loss to Yale. #18 Nebraska-Omaha swept Minnesota-Duluth, and #20 Ferris State split the weekend with Lake Superior State.
An interesting note on #4 Miami of Ohio: In last weekend’s win and tie agianst #19 Northern Michigan, Miami scored five goals Friday night, and two goals Saturday night. Those seven goals were scored by seven different players. In addition, the eleven assists came from eight different players. Ten different players accounted for the total of the seven goals and eleven assists. Looks like a pretty deep team that knows how to utilize the talents that are spread across the team.
This weekend #2 Denver plays a home and road series with #14 Colorado College, and #5 New Hampshire travels to play one at #11 Boston University. #8 Notre Dame plays its second game against #12 Michigan tonight, and #10 Cornell will host both #17 Harvard, and #12 Dartmouth.
This provides the top twenty teams, rankings, records, and last weekend’s results:
