College Hockey Update: The NCAA Ice Hockey Tournament continued with a killer dogfight (Huskies and Huskies) in Fargo, ND., between St. Cloud and Michigan Tech, in which St. Cloud came on strong late, and lasted long, to get a 3-2 win in OT; wait, didn’t I just write this one?
This game was so, so similar to the opener between BU and Yale. In this game, Tech scored first in the first period for the 1-0 lead.
St. Cloud tied it up eight minutes into the second at 1-1 on a goal by Kalle Kossila. Bet he’s from Finland too.
Michigan Tech score to make it 2-1 with only nine minutes left in the third.
And Jonny Brodzinski tied it up at two apiece with time running out to give St. Cloud State a shot at it in OT.
In the third, St. Cloud took it home, not seven minutes into OT, but eight, when Judd Peterson scored.
St. Cloud State advanced to the Western Regional Championship game tomorrow in Fargo, ND, at 6:00pm Pacific Time, on ESPNU, and will play the winner of tonight’s game between North Dakota and Quinnipiac. This game would be an upset in our pool, as 25 of 43 entries chose Michigan Tech to win.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned, and go Terriers!
