College Hockey Update: Thank you for being in our pool Forty-four entrants is quite a crowd!
Now to a “serious” discussion. A very high proportion of our entrants took very highly ranked teams throughout their brackets, and with all the upsets in the tournament, we have a ton of very cratered brackets, and we have a big bunch of people with low scores and this year’s pool will end with a winner with a somewhat, or even very, low score.
Please see the note at the bottom regarding how women are doing in the pool, as a follow up to last year’s observation.
So let’s get to it! Entrants are ranked by number of correct picks, with the highest number of correct picks possible being twelve:
8: Klein, Ramsey, DShymanski
7: Rarden, Sell
6: Bogosian, Cook, Fairbrother, Knutsen, Krajan, McLean, Pastor, GgSchreader, JSchreader, Sempere, OSchreader, Wienbar
5: Allen, Erdman, Holte, Kaycie, Kriesel, Mattson, BMichela, O’Brien, Peterson, Schmidt, GnSchreader, TShymanski, Smigielski, Speare
4: Bettendorf, Breen, Gallus, Ide, Kramer
3: Bricknell, Cattermole, Huberty, Rugani, Slaughter
2: MMichella, Ryan
1: Carlisle
Ok, we did this last year, and pointed out that the small percentage of women were all doing pretty well in the pool. This year, out of 44 entrants, only 7 are women. And they are doing pretty well — none have a score lower than 5. Of the three tied for first place with 8 correct picks, one is a woman. Of the twelve tied with 6 correct picks, three are women; and of the fourteen tied with 5 correct picks, three are women. Last year I pointed out that women had won the pool in 2000, and 2005, and last year a woman won the pool, making it three of the fifteen years we’ve had a pool. Could happen again . . . .
That’s all for now. Stay tuned, and go Terriers!
