College Hockey Update: In the final game of the Midwest Region Sunday in Allentown, PA, it was all Ohio State in what started out as a defensively dominated battle. The first period produced a total of fourteen shots between the two teams, and ended scoreless. The second period became a bit more offensive, producing nine shots per team, and Dakota Joshua scored four minutes into the frame to put Ohio State up 1-0. After twelve more minutes of stalemate, Kevin Miller scored to extend the Ohio State lead to 2-0, the score going into the second break. In the third, Matt Joyaux scored nine minutes into the period to extend the lead to 3-0, and the Denver pace really picked up at that point. Denver scored two minutes later to cut the lead to 3-1, but only thirty seconds later, Kevin Miller scored his second goal to make it 4-1, Denver. With about five minutes to go, Denver added an extra attacker, but about 45 seconds later Mason Jobst found the empty net, and made it 5-1, Ohio State, and that’s how it ended. Ohio State advanced to the Frozen Four on Thursday, April 5th, where they will face Minnesota-Duluth.
This result is a major upset in our pool, as only fourteen of our 50 participants picked Ohio State to win this game, while 31 picked Denver, three picked Pennsylvania State, and two picked Princeton.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned, and go Terriers!
