Minnesota To Frozen Four

Minnesota senior defenseman Jackson LaCombe, of Eden Prairie, MN., scored a goal to help his team to its 4-1 win over St. Cloud State in second round action of the NCAA Hockey tournament in the Fargo, North Dakota region, yesterday, Saturday, March 25, 2023. The 6’2″ 200lb defenseman is tied for seventh on his team in goals scored, with nine, and is third on his team in assists, with twenty-six. Minnesota advanced to the Frozen Four in Tampa, FL. to face Boston University on Thurs., April 6, 2023, at 2:00pm Pacific Time on ESPN2.

College Hockey Update: Minnesota prevailed over St. Cloud State 4-1 in second round action of the NCAA Hockey tournament in the Fargo, North Dakota region, yesterday, Saturday, March 25, 2023. Minnesota had the momentum early, outshooting St. Cloud 14-6, and picked up a goal by Bryce Brodzinski six minutes into the period for the 1-0 lead they took into the first break. Things evened up in the second, and St. Cloud had a slight 9-7 shot advantage while they scored on power play goal by Adam Ingram three minutes into the period. But Logan Cooley responded with a goal for Minnesota just three minutes later for the 2-1 lead, and the two teams played the remainder of the period in a grinding and nonscoring match, as Minnesota took the 2-1 lead into the first break. St. Cloud State outshot Minnesota 13-9 in the third period, but Jackson LaCombe scored for Minnesota twelve minutes into the game to extend the Minnesota lead to 3-1. St. Cloud State added an extra attacker late but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity, and instead it was Jaxon Nelson finding the empty net for Minnesota to give them win with the final score 4-1. Minnesota advanced to the Frozen Four in Tampa, FL. to face Boston University on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 2:00pm Pacific Time on ESPN2.

This outcome is not an upset in our pool as 41 of our 49 participants picked Minnesota to win this game compared to 5 who picked St. Cloud State; another 4 had picked Manakto State.
