RIT scored in the first and in the third, taking a 2-0 lead over Denver. They also stifled Denver, survived two of three Denver power plays, survived nearly two minutes of Denver skating six-on-five to try and tie the game, and were badly outshot. But the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers prevailed with a 2-1 win over the Denver Pionoeers to advance in the NCAA tournament.
In our pool only 2 of 26 participants chose RIT to win this game.
We have 26 entrants in the pool; that’s a bit off of last year’s high water mark of 28, and it is the second highest we have ever had.
Of the 26 different entries, we have eight different eventual winners chosen, of course some more often than others. This provides a summary of which teams were chosen, and how many times they were chosen:
- Miami of Ohio 7
- Denver 6
- Wisconsin 5
- Michigan 3
- Cornell 2
- Boston College 1
- North Dakota 1
- New Hampshire 1
Clearly Denver won’t be winning this thing. I think the one that surpises me the most is Boston College being picked by only one. I am taking Miami of Ohio in honor of Frank Mattson, but Boston College has distinguished itself over the past nine or ten years as a team that comes prepared for this tournament. We’ll see soon enough.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned, and go RedHawks!
