It’s UNH vs. RIT; St. Cloud vs. Wisconsin

St. Cloud State survives Northern Michigan Comeback

St. Cloud State scored twice in the fist to go up 2-0 on  Northern Michigan.  Northern Michigan scored in the first to end the period down 2-1.  St. Cloud tallied again in the second to go up 3-1, and Northern Michigan scored in the second as well to end the period down 3-2.  Late in the third Northern Michigan scored again to end the game 3-3 and force overtime.  With no score in the first OT, the game went into the second OT, and St. Cloud scored quickly, in the first half minute, to win 4-2.  Nineteen out of twenty-six in the pool picked St. Cloud State to win this game.

New Hampshire Crushes Cornell to Advance

Cornell scored late in the first to go up 1-0, and the game went without any scoring until late in the second, when New Hampshire scored twice to take the a 2-1 lead at the end of the second.  In the third it was all, all New Hampshire, as they scored three unanswered goals to go up 5-1.  Cornell scored late to make it 5-2, and with just under two minutes to go pulled their goalie to skate with an extra attacker advantage.  But the Wildcats controlled the action and bagged an empty-netter to make the final 6-2.  Cornell will play the surprisingly good RIT Tigers tomorrow as both teams pursue a berth in the Frozen Four.  This would be a minor upset in our pool as ten out of twenty-six picked New Hampshire to win this game.

Wisconsin Hangs on to Beat Vermont, Advance

Wisconsin scored early in the first to go up 1-0 on Vermont, but the Catamounts came back  a couple of minutes later and tied it up 1-1,  and then scored again late in the first to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first.  Wisconsin scored early in the second, and then again with less than a minute remaining, to take a 3-2 lead at the end of two.  Wisconsin and Vermont held each other off in the third, most importantly Wisconsin held off Vermont  for the 3-2 win.  The only goal of  the game that was not on a power play was Vermont’s first goal; Wisconsin was three of seven on power play opportunities, and Vermont was only one of five.  Wisconisin will face St. Cloud tomorrow as both teams pursue a berth in the Frozen Four.  Twenty-four out of twenty-six in our pool picked Wisconsin to win this game.
