College Hockey Update:  It’s upon us, the season of the greatest sport, and in a flash, College Hockey Update will turn on the presses.  Forget all the nonsense that try to parade themselves as important sports.  The world series?  Are you serious?  Odds are you won’t read about them here, except as a truly rare exception.  College Hockey is underway, and we aim to bring it to you.  Perhaps even with some special guest writers this year.

And what matters the most in this 2016-17 season?  We all know what it is.  Some are afraid to mention it in public.  Others scream it from the rooftops (in fact, most do).  You want to win the College Hockey Update Pool, or at least be able to read about who won it.  And here’s where you get your shot at both.  And you know that when it comes right down to it, nothing else matters in sports.

There is only one way that each and every one of our pool winners has won the coveted CHU Pool Winner Trophy Sweatshirt or T-Shirt:  By entering the pool!  Yes, that’s right, it doesn’t come to you if you don’t enter the pool.  It’s the critical step you must take.  It’s an essential in life.  Sort of like water for a fish.

THE OLIVIA SCHREADER ROTH INTERVIEW

College Hockey Update recently sat down with Olivia Roth and she gave us these tips on her winning year:

CHU:  Well what a big year in your life.  Marriage, new posh apartment, and along the way you won the College Hockey Update Pool.

O.R.:  OK, wait.  Don’t minimize winning the CHU Pool.  I mean I was never, ever worried about getting married.  And I was certainly never, ever worried about moving into a stylish apartment.  My big concern in life for years has been winning the CHU pool.  Wondering if I could ever accomplish that.  Wondering if I could ever be that lucky.  And now that it’s happened, I still can’t believe it.

CHU:  So then this has been a goal for you for a while?

O.R.:  Don’t toy with me.  It has been everything.  Very consuming.  And that experience several years ago when I was way ahead of the pack after the first weekend of the tournament, but then my teams didn’t come through in the Frozen Four.  It was . . . . crushing.  I thought I had reached the pinnacle, only to see my prize slip through my fingers.

CHU:  Oh, so that was a really big letdown?

O.R.:  I didn’t eat any Kringle for three months after that.

CHU:  And now?

O.R.:  Kringle, Kringle, Kringle!!!  Plus my mom and dad came out immediately to celebrate, had my relatives fly in, and we had the Krug Grand Cuvee Champagne, originally purchased for the wedding, delivered, and we had a huge celebration!  The Tott’s at the wedding was a bit of a bummer, but hey, the good stuff was in the right place for the right occasion.

CHU:  What do you suppose made the difference for you over the other pool contestants?

O.R.:  There hasn’t been a winner yet who didn’t leapfrog everyone else, as a result of reading every posting of College Hockey Update.  It has to get the credit.

CHU:  Oh golly, that’s so nice of you to say that.

O.R.:  Tell everyone that I’ve got at new last name and the same set of skills, and I’ll be leveraging all the insights from College Hockey Update.  I want to be the third one to win this thing twice!
