Michigan junior forward Cooper Marody, of Brighton Michigan, celebrates his first period goal with his teammates. Marody scored twice, including the late third period game winner; Defenseman Dexter Dancs scored the second goal for Michigan.  Michigan prevailed over Northeastern 3-2 to advance to the final game of the Northeastern Region in Worcester, MA. today, for a shot at a trip to the Frozen Four.  That game is just getting underway as this is being written, and can be seen on ESPN2.

College Hockey Update:  Yesterday in the late game of first round play in the Northeastern Region in Worcester, MA, an evenly played first period produced no scoring from either Michigan or Northeastern.  A lop-sided second period, in which Michigan out shot Northeastern somehow didn’t change things for quite a long time.  But fifteen minutes into the period, Cooper Marody scored to put Michigan up 1-0.  Three minutes later Northeastern scored on one of only two shots in the period to tie at one apiece going into the break.  Six minutes into the third Dexter Dancs scored to give Michigan the 2-1 advantage, and then six minutes later, Northeastern scored to tie at two apiece.  Would this game head to overtime?  Three minutes later Cooper Marody scored again to give Michigan the 3-2 lead, and try as they might, Northeastern could not respond that time, and Michigan took the 3-2 win and advanced to play in the final game today against Boston University.  That game is actually just getting underway on ESPN2 as this is being written.

This outcome wasn’t an upset in our pool, as 29 participants out of 50 had picked Michigan to win, and 21 had picked Northeastern.

That’s all for now.  Stay tuned, and go Terriers!
